Background

The Heuningvlei Backpacker Lodge has been used by the Trails Club for many years. However, the condition has deteriorated and is need of renovation. The community does not have funds for renovations as no provision was made after the original renovation by the Public Works Programme. The Trails Club stepped in and has provided funds for the most urgent work. Working in collaboration with the community, good progress has been made during 2025. The defects were listed and progress with their repair is shown:

1.Doors on the south side needing repairs to holes and protection from rot plus sealing – double door fixed, and other holes in doors

2.Several doors do not open and close easily, perhaps swollen – may need to be taken off hinges to correct the size – one door to be fixed

3.Door and windows on the north side needing to be resealed – completed

4.Replace damaged blinds with curtains – completed

5.New slat in bed – not known if it has been fixed

6.Repairs to refrigerator – completed

7.Repairs to sofa seat – completed

8.New tap in toilet area – completed

9.New ceiling and ceiling light in shower cubicle – completed

10.Repairs to tile gap at entrance to the kitchen – no progress
