Convenor: Margarethe Schaefer
Hike Leader: Libby Arnold
Hikers: Rod, Deborah and Robin, Debbie M, Julie, Mervyn, Jaenette and Jean, Helen.
Seeing there was a minimum stay of two nights, we all gathered at 22 Waterfalls Private Nature Reserve campsite on Friday evening, visibly excited, as this area and hike was completely new to many people in the TCSA.
An early start on Saturday morning in perfect weather, took us to our first ladder with a sign that said “Dangerous. At own risk”. And then the fun began. Libby ably led us up ladder after ladder, rock scramble, root climb, many river crossings and always along the running river, tall waterfalls, little waterfalls. Always in the forest, in the shade. It was beautiful!
Once we reached the very end, we enjoyed a leisurely lunch, before we headed down the same way. The entire wonderful experience in reverse.
After seven and a half hours, we were all down safely and looking forward to taking off our boots, a shower and a tipple and watching another magnificent sunset. What a day! What an experience!
On Sunday morning, we had a short, flat circular walk in the opposite direction, also along a running stream and mostly in the shade. Thereafter, we headed back to our chalets, packed up and left for home.
Thank you to Libby for your able lead on Saturday. Thank you to everyone who came along on this most enjoyable hiking weekend. It was awesome.
